Digital Photography is arguably the biggest development in photography since George Eastman invented roll film. The introduction of digital SLR cameras now unlocks digital photography/illustration to everyone. The Digital Photography program will prepare students for a variety of opportunities in the ever-changing digital world. Students will receive a broad overview of computer software programs (currently Microsoft Office, Apple's iLife, and Adobe Creative Suite) through an exciting range of courses starting in their freshman year. In their junior year, students will expand their knowledge by taking two college credit courses only offered at Elk Grove High School (Photo 40 and Digital Photo 11). These six (6) Sac State college units are transferable to almost any college in the country. Interested? Fill out the application and become part of this unique academy at Elk Grove High School! After their freshmen year the students will need to decide which direction in the Academy they are going to pursue Computers and Graphic Design or Digital Photo.
Computers and Graphic Design I This course is designed to introduce basic computer use and operation, as well as the elements and principles of design. Students will have the opportunity to work with computers and a variety of software such as Abobe, Microsoft and the iLife Suite of products. Emphasis will be on creativity, originality, technique, meeting the needs of the client, and task completion. Students will also be introduced to design terminology, the history of design, as well as the development of aesthetic judgment. Large project based learning skills will be implemented. This course fulfills the district technology proficiency requirement and meets the CSU Visual and Performing Arts requirement and the UC elective requirement. SOPHOMORE YEAR Photo I This course will cover an outline of the history of photography, the basic design elements, cameras; pinhole, simple, and single lens reflex, digital, film types, processing of black and white film, composition, projection and contact printing types of photography; portrait, action, close-up and still life, finishing prints for exhibition, and subject treatment. It will cover a variety of lab techniques and safe chemical handling practices. This course meets the graduation requirements and meets the CSU Visual and Performing Arts requirement and the UC elective requirement. JUNIOR YEAR** **Student can elect to take a second Academy Tech class their junior year if they are able to fulfill all graduation requirements. This is encouraged and may require one of the following: a) Taking a summer school course that fulfills the graduation requirement b) Taking a course at CRC that fulfills the graduation requirement c) Taking a zero period that fulfills the graduation requirement in addition to the regularly scheduled classes CSUS Photo 40 Photography II continues development of skills learned in Photography I. The students will improve previously learned skills in composing and shooting, developing and printing, mounting and preparing for exhibition. They will study new lab techniques and apply them. They will learn to use a variety of equipment such as 4x5, 120 Leonardo Pinhole and Digital SLR. Students will study past and present photographers/artist and their contributions to the art world. Students will be encouraged to enter a variety of contests and shows. Students will learn about career opportunities in the Photographic Arts. This is a college course in which students will get college credit through CSUS’s ACE program. CSUS Digital Photo 11 Students will study and practice several areas of contemporary digital photography and illustration with a strong emphasis on computer-generated art and photo illustrations. This course explores the history of traditional and digital photography, composition, elements of art, principles of design, visualization of imagery, creative options, secrets of scanning, classic darkroom type techniques, subject treatment, and the publishing of images. Students will be introduced to terminology as well as development of aesthetic judgment. Students will be working with current software, hardware and graphic technologies and will learn about career opportunities in the Photographic arts. The basic elements of art and the principles of design will be studied along with Photo/Art history, appreciation, criticism and judgment. This is a college course in which students will get college credit through CSUS’s ACE program. Between the summer of the Junior and Senior year direct observation and supervised internships will be offered to those who qualify to increase student understanding of the nature and scope of agency operations and giving students orientation in occupational specialties. SENIOR YEAR ROP Digital Imaging This course continues to expand the development of skills learned in both the Photography and the Digital course with a focus on gaining a solid foundation in technology necessary for professional photography and photo illustration. Students will combine creative photography and digital skills with emphasis on pre-shoot planning to post-digital illustration. They will also explore the unlimited, imaginative possibilities of artistic and commercial applications. Large project based learning skills will be implemented. Careers in this field will also be explored in this class and students will be encouraged to meet the needs of the campus by creating images and illustrations and other arts services as requested. ![]() | ||||||
